What is the Forgiveness of Sins?

Updated: Apr 6, 2019

One of the last words of Jesus to his followers was to preach forgiveness of sins to all nations, Luke 24:47. What is the forgiveness of sins?

Sin

Sins simple are the things we say, think, or do that disobey God's laws. God graciously gave us a conscious and everyone knows his basic laws - the ten commandments. Jesus summed up the laws:

“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these." - Mark 12:29-31.

Jesus also shared with us that God is Holy and even our sinful thoughts are enough to send us out of his presence, Matthew 5.

Forgiveness

With sin in mind, we are then in need of forgiveness. And that forgiveness is found in Jesus. He went in the path of sin - death and separation from God to redeem us. Galatians 4:6, "but when the time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the Law, that we might receive our adoption as sons." Because of this He is able to offer forgiveness to those that believe.

Youre sins are forgiven, those are the words everyone wants to hear.
